Roll-off containers for Defiance homes and jobsites
Defiance is twenty-five to thirty minutes from the yard, down Highway Z and Highway D through New Melle or around on Highway 94, and it is one of the more interesting places we deliver. The town itself is small — a short stretch along Highway 94 with the Katy Trail running through it, a few wineries, and the Historic Daniel Boone Home just up Highway F in the Femme Osage valley. Everything around it is Missouri River hill country: steep ground, bluff lots, wooded acreage and long private drives.
The building stock splits three ways. There is genuinely old construction, 19th-century frame and stone in the valley and around the old settlement sites, which demolishes as plaster, lath, old-growth timber and stone rather than drywall and studs — two to three times the weight per unit volume, so we undersize the container deliberately and swap it. There are 1970s through 2000s houses on acreage, full basements, many of them walk-outs cut into the hillside. And there is newer custom work on the bluffs, where the view is the whole point and the driveway is a quarter mile of gravel with a switchback in it.
The work follows the terrain. Deck and railing replacement is constant because every bluff house has a deck and the weather here is hard on them. Storm damage is serious: straight-line wind funnelling along the river valley takes out oak and hickory limb wood in quantity, and that goes as a separate clean load under Missouri’s ban on yard waste in sanitary landfills. Hillside houses on expansive clay get foundation movement and basement water, so seepage cleanouts with wet carpet, pad and drywall are routine and heavier than the volume suggests. And the wineries and event properties along the trail generate their own cycle of remodel, outbuilding and cleanup work.
What we know about working in Defiance
Getting a truck in is the whole conversation in Defiance. Steep gravel drives, switchbacks, soft shoulders and narrow bridges are all normal here, and a loaded roll-off weighs enough that a grade which a pickup handles easily is a genuine problem for us. Tell us the length, the grade, the surface, whether there is a turnaround at the top and whether the drive drains, and be honest about it — we would far rather set at the bottom of the hill or on a firm pad near the road than get a truck sideways on wet clay. Overhead clearance along a wooded valley drive is the second constraint, because a hoist arm needs real height above the truck to raise and set a box; flag low limbs when you book and we will bring a shorter container. We will not cut a limb to make a delivery fit. On acreage, keep the container off the septic tank, the lateral field and anything near the well head, and call Missouri 811 before digging near a placement. If the job involves anything built before 1980, treat floor tile and mastic, pipe and duct wrap, plaster skim coats and roofing felt as suspect for asbestos — we cannot take asbestos-containing material in any container, and demolition generally triggers a Missouri DNR notification. Rules change, so confirm current requirements with the agency rather than assuming.

Getting a truck to you
Highway Z to Highway D through New Melle is our usual line in, or Highway 94 along the river when we are coming from the Weldon Spring side. Twenty-five to thirty minutes from the yard. Highway 94 is a good road but it is winding and it carries trail and winery traffic on weekends, which slows a loaded truck more than it slows a car. The real variables are your drive: grade, surface, turnaround and overhead. Give us those four things and the septic and well locations, and we will bring the container that can actually get in and back out loaded.
Routes we run: Highway Z south to Highway D and on through New Melle, Highway 94 along the Missouri River hills, Highway F south from Wright City and Defiance Road, the Femme Osage valley roads.

Permits, streets and placement in Defiance
On a private driveway in Defiance you generally do not need a municipal permit. Placement in the public street or right-of-way is a different matter and normally requires approval — from the borough or township where the road is locally maintained, or from MoDOT where it is a state route. Every municipality in St. Charles County runs its own form and its own lead time, and older streets here often have no off-street parking at all, so plan the permit before you plan the delivery. It is a ten-minute call that saves a week.
Our permit and placement guide walks through the whole process, and Missouri DNR publishes the Covered Device Recycling Act rules and the other statewide disposal restrictions that apply to every load we haul out of Defiance. County recycling and household hazardous waste dates are published by St. Charles County.

Dumpster Rental in Defiance — FAQs
My driveway is steep gravel with a switchback. Can you still deliver?
Often, but tell us before delivery day rather than on it. A loaded roll-off is far heavier than a pickup and a wet clay-based gravel grade is where trucks get into trouble. Describe the length, the grade, the surface, the turnaround at the top and how it drains. If it is marginal we will set at the bottom of the hill or on a firm pad near the road, which is a much better outcome than a recovery.
The house is 19th century. Does that change the container size?
Yes. Old frame and stone construction in the Femme Osage valley demolishes as plaster, lath, heavy old-growth timber and masonry, which runs roughly two to three times the weight of the same volume of drywall and modern studs. We put a smaller container on those jobs and swap it rather than let a large box get loaded past legal haul weight. Pre-1980 material also needs asbestos and lead testing before demolition.
How do you handle downed trees after a storm here?
As a separate clean load. Missouri does not allow yard waste into a sanitary landfill, so brush and limb wood go to a composting or organics facility, and mixing them with construction debris can get the whole box reclassified. Oak and hickory limb wood off these river-hill lots is heavy, so we size the container for weight rather than volume. Structural storm debris — roofing, siding, fencing — rides in a separate box.
How quickly can you deliver a dumpster to Defiance?
Defiance is about 13 miles south of our May Road yard, so it is a routine run for us. Same-day delivery is usually possible if you call before about 11am, and next morning otherwise. Storm weeks and the spring remodeling peak can stretch that, and we will tell you honestly when you call.
Do you charge extra to deliver to Defiance?
No. Defiance sits inside our standard service area and the flat rate is the same as it is in Wentzville. Delivery, pickup, your rental window and disposal up to the agreed tonnage are all included in the number we quote you.
What size dumpster do most Defiance customers take?
A 20 yard is the most common by a wide margin — it suits kitchen guts, multi-room renovations and three-bedroom house cleanouts. But if you are stripping plaster and lath out of a pre-war house, or moving brick, block, concrete or a chimney, size DOWN to a 10 yard heavy container and take two hauls — that material hits the weight limit long before it fills the box.
